We started with a 50’s style flat roof house. The exterior was covered with virgin timber redwood, stained red. We removed a section of the house and added space in front and back to expand the kitchen and den area. We raised the ceiling to 11 feet. We also added a walk in closet with an 11’ ceiling. Access to the tall shelves and racks was achieved by a library ladder. We removed all ceiling sheetrock from the house to access the joists for insulation. We removed all the windows and plate glass and placed them with insulated glass. We also removed all finishes from the bathrooms for a complete remodel.
The finished product included a kitchen / den area with pickled ash trim and granite countertops. We installed new ceramic tile in the kitchen, carpet in the den, and refinished the hardwood floors. The foyer was paneled in the original redwood which we stripped, stained and pickled to match the ash trim. All new appliances were installed in the kitchen including a downdraft Jennaire appliance with underground ductwork. The entire house was repainted inside and out. The exterior of the new structures was covered with galvanized corrugated metal.
